Botox treatment procedure

Botox treatment procedure is commonly used to treat all areas of the face. Botox treatments successfully combat both fine lines and deep wrinkles.

Botox® treatments have been used as Cosmetic Treatments since the late 1980’s, revolutionising the cosmetic industry due to their remarkable results combined with very few risks and the added bonus of no need for recovery time.

Botox® injections have been used to treat millions of patients worldwide, this procedure is the world’s most popular non-surgical treatment.

Botox® Treatment procedure is used to :

1.  Smooth away unwanted frown lines, laughter lines and forehead furrows.

4.  Tip up the corners of the mouth, and smooth out the chin.
5.  Relax the platysmal muscles in the neck, smoothing ‘necklace’ lines.

What will happen before, during and after your Botox treatment procedure….

Before your Botox treatment procedure you will receive a consultation during which, the practitioner will discuss the following:

Your medical history:

The practitioner will take a detailed medical history from you. This includes any allergies you have, any potential contraindications and any previous cosmetic treatments you have had. Please also make a list of any medication you are taking.

Your expected outcome

Your practitioner will ask you, what you would like the treatment to achieve and which areas of your face you have concerns over. During your consultation, your practitioner might discuss alternative treatments that are more appropriate. They also might recommend complementary treatments aimed at helping you achieve the results you want.

Potential risks and side effects of the Botox treatment procedure

Any possible side effects will be discussed and you can raise any particular concerns you may have. It’s important you are aware of the risks and side-effects of having Botox before having treatment.  More common side-effects include mild bruising, headache or slight swelling.

Aftercare advise

You will be advised on what you should do to ensure your treatment is as effective as possible. This will include aftercare advice for the few days following your treatment

Your opportunity to ask questions

Throughout the consultation, you will be given ample opportunity to ask any questions and share any worries you have about the treatment. It is worth having a think about any potential questions you may have before you arrive at the consultation.

Time to make a decision

You should be given enough time to digest the information you’ve been given. You need to make a considered decision about whether the treatment is right for you.

Sign your Botox treatment procedure consent form

The last step before going ahead with treatment is to sign a consent form. One of our practitioners will talk you through the consent form and give you time to read it through before the treatment. When all forms are filled out and consent forms signed, the treatment can take place.

Warning bells should ring, f you are offered the treatment without an in-depth consultation.  The outcome will be that you are unlikely to get you the results you want and you will not be treated in a way that meets the standards you should expect when undergoing the Botox procedure. It can also be dangerous, as they will not be aware of your medical history.

The Botox treatment procedure:

You will find that talking about the procedure, often takes a lot longer than the treatment itself.  Firstly, the areas of your face that are to be treated will be cleaned and prepped with a topical numbing cream.

Then, using a very fine needle, your Botox® treatment is injected directly into the targeted facial muscles. Each injection takes just a few seconds and because the needles that we use are so fine, you will find the procedure relatively painless.  At the very worst, only minor discomfort is felt. The entire procedure takes just a few minutes.

The onset of the action of Botox® varies from person to person, but on average it takes 36-72 hours for botulinum toxin to take effect.  It may take as long as 7-14 days for the full effect of the treatment to be observed.

After the Botox treatment procedure

Generally, you will be able to leave the Suffolk Medical Clinic within minutes of your treatment. Many patients choose to return to work, go shopping, have lunch, attend social engagements etc.  If you wear makeup, you can reapply or touch up makeup before you leave the clinic.

We do not recommend exercising for four hours after a Botox® treatment. In addition, if you have Botox® around the eyes, you should avoid vigorously rubbing towards your eyes for a few days after your treatment.  Aftercare will be discussed further.

Botox starts to take effect usually within a few days, with full effect at two weeks.  Most clients have it repeated every 4 months when the muscle function has started to return. It is usual to retreat when there is about 50% of the muscle activity back.  The effects will usually wear off completely by six to eight months and there is no evidence that it has any long-term effect on the muscles that it was injected into.

However, by relaxing the muscles for a period of time, the inclination to use them is reduced, and this ‘re-education’ effect is also helpful in the prevention of further lines or wrinkles.

Before you leave the clinic you will be offered a free of charge review appointment where photos will be taken, results discussed and any adjustments, if necessary, are done.
